Whitney Houston – All Albums & Songs Lyrics
Houston is one of the highest-selling music artists of all time, with over 200 million records sold globally. In 2023, Rolling Stone ranked her as the second-greatest singer of all time, and she has been a significant influence on many popular music artists.
Houston's vocal prowess was renowned, and she was admired for her powerful, soulful vocals and vocal improvisation skills. She is the only artist to have achieved seven consecutive number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100, ranging from "Saving All My Love for You" in 1985 to "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" in 1988. Houston was also a popular figure in the film industry, making her acting debut with the romantic thriller The Bodyguard (1992). Her rendition of "I Will Always Love You" from the movie's soundtrack won the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and became the best-selling physical single by a woman in music history. The Bodyguard's soundtrack won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and remains the bestselling soundtrack album of all time.
Throughout her career and posthumously, Houston received numerous accolades, including two Emmy Awards, six Grammy Awards, 16 Billboard Music Awards, and 28 Guinness World Records. She has also been inducted into the Grammy, Rhythm and Blues Music, and Rock and Roll halls of fame.
Houston began singing in church as a child and later became a background vocalist while in high school. In 1981, she became one of the first black women to appear on the cover of Seventeen magazine after becoming a teen model. Under the guidance of Clive Davis, the chairman of Arista Records, Houston signed to the label at the age of 19. Her first two studio albums, Whitney Houston (1985) and Whitney (1987), both peaked at number one on the Billboard 200 and are among the best-selling albums of all time. Houston's third studio album, I'm Your Baby Tonight (1990), produced two Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles: "I'm Your Baby Tonight" and "All the Man That I Need".
Houston faced personal challenges that overshadowed her career, including drug use and a tumultuous marriage to singer Bobby Brown. Her drug use and personal problems were widely covered by the media. In 2002, her studio album Just Whitney received mixed reviews. After a six-year hiatus from recording, Houston returned to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with her final studio album, I Look to You (2009).
On February 11, 2012, Houston accidentally drowned in a bathtub at the Beverly Hilton hotel in Beverly Hills. Heart disease and cocaine use were contributing factors to her death. News of her passing coincided with the 2012 Grammy Awards, which took place the day following her death, and was covered extensively internationally.
In December 2022, an official biopic movie about Houston's life, titled I Wanna Dance with Somebody, was released in theaters. Browse A to Z all Whitney Houston albums and singles songs lyrics below.
